Founded in 1990, AiShinKai Fudō Myōō-Ji is a community club devoted to “a life worth living.” Our beginner Japanese Swordsmanship Class offers a unique way to encounter a variety of traditional Japanese martial and cultural arts in a friendly, recreational setting. Discover time-honored methods for cultivating the full potential of your body, mind, and spirit. Our training is suitable for all, regardless of size, age, or gender. Swords are cool! Our instructor has over 40 years of experience and is a 2009 inductee of the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame. Discover self-mastery and Japanese culture with All Japan Kendo Federation Iaido - an art of quick-draw swordsmanship devoted to the development of body, mind, and spirit, AiShin-ryu Aiki sword and staff - an art which presents options for peaceful conflict resolution from a position of internal and external strength and harmony, and Ki Meditation, Breathing, and Mind-Body Coordination Exercises. It’s fun, enlightening, and may change your life! Please wear long sweat pants, volleyball knee pads, and a t-shirt; training swords and other necessary gear will be provided. Due to the nature of our training, our minimum age to participate is 15. Instructor permission is required for Advanced Class registration.

Jonathan Bannister (Renshi Iaido 6th degree, AiShin-ryu Aiki Shihan) has been studying Japanese martial arts for more than four decades, and was trained extensively in Japan by several famous instructors including Eura Kazunori Sensei (Iaido 8th degree), Maruyama Shuji Sensei (Kokikai Aikido Founder), and Don Yoshimoto Trent Sensei (Kendo Kyoshi 7th degree, Iaido Renshi 7th degree). He has served as Chair of the Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation's Iaido Committee since 2018.
