About Us
Head Instructor
Jonathan Bannister (Renshi Iaido 6th degree, AiShin-ryu Aiki Shodai) has been practicing and teaching Japanese martial and cultural arts since 1980. A student of Eura Kazunori Sensei (Iaido Hanshi 8th degree), Maruyama Shuji Sensei (Kokikai Aikido), and Don Yoshimoto Trent Sensei (Kendo Kyoshi 7th degree, Iaido Renshi 6 degree), Bannister Sensei trained extensively in Japan and is the founder of several dojo. He is a regular regional and national examiner, and served as Chair of the Pacific Northwest Kendo Federation's Iaido Committee 2018-2023 and Co-Chair 2024-present. Bannister Sensei received an honorary doctorate from the USA Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 2009 and has been honored by the cities of Shoreline, Washington and the City of Seattle for his continued contributions towards promoting friendship between the communities of the Pacific Northwest and Japan.
Modern Studio
Our beautiful dojo in Edmonds, Washington is a private facility that is only available to members for private instruction and special events. Our open-to-the-public class Introduction to Japanese Swordsmanship meets on Thursday evenings 6:30-8:00pm at the Spartan Recreation Center, 202 NE 185th St, Shoreline, WA 98155. Visitors are welcome to observe; participation requires registration with Shoreline Parks and Recreation, 206-801-2600.

The best way to meet us is to visit our Thursday 6:30-8:00pm open practice for Japanese Swordsmanship. We meet in the Dance Room at Spartan Recreation Center, 202 NE 185th St, Shoreline, WA 98155. You'll see how we train, have your questions answered, and can decide if you want to participate.
